asked questions

  • What about sessions? What are they like?
Sessions are 50 minutes. But we can make sessions longer (or shorter) if we decide that changing the session length would be helpful. The first session looks pretty standard as we get to know each other, and I learn more about what life looks like for you and how we can work together to build a life congruent with your most authentic self. We will discuss recommended treatment, set goals for therapy, frequency of sessions, how to make appointments, contact us, etc. Sessions after that are largely driven by you, and your needs. We strive to meet you wherever you are in your journey so sessions will look a little different each time.
  • Are you seeing clients virtual, or in-person?
Kristen sees clients virtually (most flexible) and in person in Collegeville, PA, and Kennett Square, PA (Kennett Square on Fridays only). Colleen mainly sees clients virtually but if you find in-person sessions to be more your style, Colleen sees clients in Collegeville, PA.
  • How long does therapy take?
The duration and longevity of therapy depend on many factors like your needs and readiness for change, length of our sessions, cadence of sessions, and engagement in the therapeutic process. We typically start with weekly or bi-weekly sessions, but this can change and flex throughout our time together. We are 100% dedicated to providing healing, personal empowerment, safe and healthy relationships, and getting our clients out of therapy as quickly and clinically recommended as possible. We like to joke that our job is actually to put ourselves out of business. We won't keep you in therapy just to keep you in therapy. The long and short of it, there is no answer to this question. It is completely dependent on you, and what you need. We want our clients' to feel a sense of health and freedom in all areas of their life.
  • What if I don't feel like coming to a session?
Therapy can be tough sometimes and you might be hesitant to come for a session. We get it. We know that motivation can ebb and flow and that sometimes you are just tired. It's our job to recognize when to push and when to keep a session light. We fully believe in meeting clients where they are, both on intake and throughout the therapeutic relationship. However, if you need to cancel, we ask that you do so 24 hours prior to the session time.
  • What if I don’t like Kristen or Colleen?
We dare you to try. Kidding, of course. Sometimes two human just don't click. If that happens during our work together we will ensure there is a smooth handoff with another therapist that is more your style.
  • What is EMDR?
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. Kristen works with clients who have been doing talk therapy, CBT, DBT, etc., for years, but still feel a bit stuck. While these are all phenomenal therapies to navigate the feelings and triggers that arise in life, EMDR works to directly influence and desensitize a person's triggers before they happen. Trauma changes our experience of how we view ourselves and the world. When we are traumatized, the logical and critical thinking part of our brain gets overwhelmed and leaves us. We then interpret and process the trauma with our limbic (emotion) system and survival (amygdala) brain. These are the parts of our brain and body that get activated during a traumatic and triggering event. EMDR works with these areas of the brain and body. Kristen likes to conceptualize it this way - "we can't think ourselves out of feeling." She has seen tremendous success with EMDR. If you want more information, don't hesitate to get in touch with her, and she can share other resources.
  • What are your rates? Do you offer a sliding scale?
Colleen offers a sliding scale fee between $70-$130 based on your income and other financial circumstances.
  • Does coeo accept insurance?
coeo, llc is dedicated to honoring our client's time and financial needs. We are committed to providing exceptional therapy within the appropriate clinical timeframe, ensuring our clients heal and thrive in the world as soon as possible. Due to many insurance concerns, coeo does not bill insurance directly. We provide a Superbill at the end of each month or each session that you can submit as an out-of-network claim. This Superbill has all of the information needed for reimbursement, and we are also happy to connect with insurance companies directly if that would be helpful. You can pay using a credit or debit card or by connecting your bank account. Here is a helpful link about SuperBills: https://www.thesuperbill.com/blog/what-is-a-superbill
